Unique genetics

Quality is decided before anything is planted.

Cultivation, curing and extraction can protect what a plant already has. None of them can add what was never in it. Genetics is the first quality decision, and every stage after it inherits the result.

You cannot cure your way out of ordinary flower. The ceiling is set by what you started with.

The foundation

Three things a cultivar
decides in advance.

A genetic line sets the range a product can occupy: its character, how reliably that character repeats, and whether it is distinguishable from everything else on the shelf. Every stage downstream works inside that range.

Quality

The ceiling

Aroma, structure, resin and how cleanly a flower finishes are largely inherited. Good cultivation realizes that potential. It cannot create it. Starting from a strong line is the least glamorous quality decision anyone makes, and the most decisive.

Consistency

The same thing twice

A stable line behaves predictably run after run. Without it, a customer's second purchase is a different product and a written specification means very little.

Distinction

Something not everyone has

Widely available genetics produce widely available products. A held library is the part of a brand's character a competitor cannot simply order.

The library

Held, not
bought per run.

Silver Ash maintains its own library of cultivars instead of sourcing whatever is available at the time of planting. Holding genetics is what makes the rest possible. A line can be evaluated over several runs, kept because it earned its place, and returned to years later.

The work

Selection is a judgment,
made the same way each time.

Two disciplines sit behind the library. One decides what earns a place in it. The other keeps what's in it from drifting.

Downstream

The starting material
for everything else.

A cultivar chosen for the flower it produces is not automatically the right input for concentrate, and the reverse is equally true. Because the same operator holds the genetics and runs production, that choice gets made at the front instead of discovered at the end.

Flower

Chosen to be sold as it grew

Lines kept for their structure, aroma and how cleanly they finish. These are the qualities a customer judges first.

Extraction

Chosen for what survives the process

Different lines carry different aromatic character through processing. Selecting for that at the genetic stage is what makes an expressive concentrate possible. See manufacturing.

Formulation

Chosen to hold a profile

Finished formats are built around a defined character. A stable line is what allows that character to be specified, then repeated on the next production run.

For partners

A point of view
you can't order.

Most brands entering cannabis buy from the same pool of material as their competitors and end up differentiated by packaging alone. A held library changes what a brand can be built on: a specific character, kept consistent, belonging to the product and not the label.

Partner work can start from a cultivar already in the library, or from a search for one that fits the product you have in mind. What that engagement looks like is covered under Powered by Silver Ash.

is supposed to make you feel.

Effect is the honest starting point. It's what a customer is buying, and a more useful brief than a strain name. Aroma and flavor follow once we know which line gets you closest.
